About

My Approach

I hate bad technology. There. I said it.

What drives me crazy? Complex user interfaces. Obtuse navigation. Cryptic error messages. Over-featured software. Obstructionist developers. Incoherent Web copy. Technology itself isn't bad, but all-too-often it's just built that way. Sometimes by people who try to make one solution fit everyone. Other times, it's the outcome of misaligned strategy.

I approach projects differently. I'm "whole-brained," with a blend of analytical, technical and creative skills. I believe in universality and the power of emotional design. I strive to create solutions that are easy-to-use, intuitive, accessible and versatile.

Services

My specialties are Web strategy, design, user experience and content. I'm available on a project or contract basis to:

  • Oversee creative direction and visual design
  • Conceptualize and build Web interfaces
  • Develop and integrate communications strategies
  • Produce and manage Web content
  • Advise on public engagement efforts

Additional production services:

  • Semantic, standards-compliant, cross-browser XHTML & tableless CSS
  • Custom Wordpress implementations & themes
  • Information architecture & wireframes
  • Web site copy and editing
  • YouTube, MySpace and blog themes
  • Digital photo manipulation/editing; Web graphics
  • Google Maps mashups
  • Custom PHP-based online forms
  • Other fun stuff!

I'm adept at working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to support executive-level initiatives and communications goals. I also enjoy working with design, PR and marketing agencies, as well as small business owners and individuals.
